The Musso Family has a history in Barbaresco dating back over 300 years. Giacomo Filippo Musso, the original Mayor of Barbaresco in 1698, played a pivotal role in establishing the town. In 1929, amidst the Great Depression, Sebastiano Musso founded the small Musso family winery with just a 1.5-hectare plot of Nebbiolo in Cavanna.
Despite the challenges of the Great Depression and World War II, the Musso winery persevered and gradually thrived in the latter half of the 20th century. In the 1960s, Augusto, Sebastian’s son, joined the company, and they expanded their vineyards by acquiring a plot on the hill of Pora and an entire farm in Rio Sordo in 1966.
Today, three generations of the Musso family manage the winery. Valter Musso, who joined the family business in the mid-1980s, now leads the winery. His son, Emanuele, oversees marketing, while Valter’s grandson, Luca Accornero, is responsible for vineyard management.
